Independence Day is an opportunity to celebrate our independence from foreign rule, while commemorating our freedom fighters, without whose sacrifice, this day would not have been possible.
August 15, 2022 marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence and that makes it all the more special. The Indian government last year declared a year-long celebration, called Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the citizens of the nation to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and celebrate the day with glory and fervor.
Over the past few days, more and more people have been posting the Indian tricolor as a display image on their social media profiles and handles. Demand for Tricolor has exceeded expectations and major markets are unable to meet it.
In the midst of the celebrations, it would be all the more fascinating to decorate our homes and offices in keeping with the national theme. It’s about thinking beyond our prestigious tricolor and celebrating various historical and traditional elements of our country.
We share some brilliant ideas for decorating our spaces:
Our national flower, the lotus
The lotus is our national flower. Although it grows in swamps, it can be beautifully decorated in water bowls, vases and pots. It can be placed on a high table near the entrance to the house or office. It goes equally well on a coffee table or a side table in the living room or on the desk.
Cushions and Pillows
You can play with the colors of our Tricolore and choose the cushion covers accordingly. You can either opt for individual cushion covers, in saffron white and green, or choose the design that subtly highlights these colors.
Indian tribal designs
If you are looking for tribal designs, you will come across a wide range of handicrafts, looms and handicrafts inspired by tribal art. They add an ethnic element to the living space or office. A simple wall hanging could do the trick!
There are many paper and fabric lanterns available in the market. All you have to do is choose saffron, white and green and place them above the LED bulbs in your home. You would be surprised at the magic created by the light.
If you have a smart LED screen in your office or at home, you can simply upload a high resolution photo of our tricolor and save it as a screensaver for the occasion.
The government has also called on citizens to raise the national flag in their premises, homes and business establishments from August 13 to 15. There are some do’s and don’ts associated with hoisting the tricolor that should be considered:
- Make sure the tricolor is not damaged or torn
- The flag must be hoisted high above any other signage or any other flag
- The saffron stripe must be above the tricolor
- The tricolor must never touch the ground, nor get wet at any time
- The national flag should not be inscribed with words or squiggles
- After the celebration, the tricolor should be respectfully removed, folded and securely placed
