Police arrest man for raping lady in church during decorating drill


Disclosure of this development in a statement, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi Akindele said had the channel knowledge of the 20-year-old victim forcefully as they both visited the church in the Ita Oshin district of Abeokuta, the state capital, for the decoration.

According to the police spokesperson, the incident happened on Saturday, April 16, 2022, after which the victim’s mother filed a complaint at the Lafenwa departmental headquarters.

Oyeyemi said the complainant sent her daughter and the suspect to the church for decoration, where the latter committed the crime.

The statement read: “When they arrived at the church, they met other women who had come to sweep the church in preparation for the Sunday service.

“But as soon as these women left after sweeping the church, the suspect took advantage of being alone with the victim and forcefully had illegal carnal relations with her inside the church.

“Upon the report, DPO Lafenwa Division, CSP Kayode Shadrach, instructed their detectives to pursue the suspect and bring him to justice.

“Detectives attended the scene and quickly apprehended the suspect who has since confessed to the crime.”

The suspect, Oyeyemi added, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labor Unit for further investigation and possible prosecution. .
