Target recalls popular Christmas decoration after injury reports


(NEXSTAR) – If you recently purchased a “Letters to Santa Claus” mailbox from Target to add to your holiday decor, you might want to pick it up.

Target has issued a recall for approximately 174,300 decorative letterboxes sold nationwide and online through October and November 2021.

Mailboxes, pictured below, contain mail slots that pose a risk of laceration, according to the reminder released Friday. Target has received nine reports of brutal letter slot openings and seven incidents of lacerations, three of which required medical attention.

These mailboxes are part of the “Bullseyes Playground” or the “Dollar Spot” and have a sticker price of $ 5.

To determine if your mailbox is affected by the recall, Target says to check the item number found on the lower product sticker. The article numbers of the affected products are listed below.

  • 234-17-8556: Red or white letterbox
  • 234-20-9275: Red and white (2 counts)

If you have a “Letters to Santa Claus” mailbox included in the recall, you are encouraged to stop using it immediately and return it to any Target store for a gift card with the full refund amount. . If you purchased the item online, you can contact Target to get a prepaid return label to return it, along with a gift card.

If you no longer have the receipt, return options include finding the item on a credit / debit card used for the purchase, locating the item under “Purchase History” in the Target app if you are a Target Circle member, which means you scanned the app at the time of purchase or entered a phone number.
