The lights of the Murwillumbah Bridge will be in the colors of the holiday season, casting spectacular reflections on the River Tweed.

Tweed Shire is getting ready for the big red in swim shorts over an evil to come surf on December 25, and street banners and decorations have been set up to welcome him.

The light poles from Florence Street to Wharf Street are decorated and at night the border marker will feature Christmas images that will be edited in time for New Years Eve.

Decorations were installed on Alma and Main streets in Murwillumbah and the light globes were changed on the Murwillumbah Bridge to the colors of the holiday season.

The border marker at Tweed Heads will feature Christmas imagery every night and then change in time to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

The Murwillumbah Services Club team also embraced the Christmas spirit by erecting a large tree on their grounds on Wollumbin Street which also lights up at night.

Three Kingscliff elementary schools were busy creating Christmas banners that were put up on picnic shelters in Rowan Robinson Park.

Banners from Cudgen Public School, Kingscliff Public School and St Anthony’s Primary School feature Christmas and holiday messages and student artwork.

At night, the lighting will illuminate the park and the Norfolk pines.

Like many in the community, Kerrie McConnell, Council Events Manager, looked forward to the vacation in the Tweed. “Sometimes it’s too easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the season, so we hope these festive reminders spread across the County will bring some zest for life to our community, she said.

The board would like to thank the local businesses, Wilsons Displays and Elfords Electrical, for their assistance in installing the decorations and banners, Kingscliff Rotary for their work with the schools and the Kingscliff & District Chamber of Commerce.
